Cadastral records

Cadastral records are a gem of genealogical research. Compiled in the 19th century for taxation purposes, they contain maps with numbered parcels and the corresponding ownership protocols — they let us identify the house where your ancestors lived and the land they held.

See also: land and mortgage records — cadastral maps tell you where the family farm was; land and mortgage books tell you who owned it, when, and how it passed to the heirs. Together they reconstruct the full history of an ancestral home.
